OPEN FOR GENERAL SUBMISSIONS

The Cavalcade of Terror is flash fiction site that actively seeks horror and dark fiction under 1000 words. (Note that dark doesn’t mean humorless.)  We are currently a non-paying market offering $5 for the feature story, and try to maintain a 60 day response time.  If possible, we will offer constructive criticisms on rejected fiction.  We welcome standalone artwork, podcasts, spoken word, or songs under 5 minutes and other media.  Please include some suggested tags, a 50 word 3rd person bio (with or without tasteful picture) and one link you’d like to promote with your submission. Submissions should be fully proofed and in standard online format and ready to copy and paste.  If you would like your story to be considered for a non-paid, non-sticky slot please indicate so in the email.  (This is not as gross as it sounds 😉 — it only means that your story would be published under the cover story [which is pinned as the first entry] and you would not get paid for it.)

We can only pay via Paypal at this time, sorry.  So it goes.

Reprints,  simultaneous and multiple submissions are okay. Add #submission to the subject line of your email, otherwise your submission may be delayed.  If we can’t open it, then we won’t read it, and we can’t read it, we’ll most likely reject it, so please use a reasonable file format.

Copyright remains with the author in all cases.  From time to time we will choose a story for podcasting, this is based on volunteers from the podcasting community, but we do welcome author contributed work.  These mp3 files will be distributed freely but we ask listeners not to modify the file. Currently we are doing occasional EPUB archives of all Cavalcade content, and yearly Frightful Friday archives.  This is to encourage offline browsing, it is not mandatory to be included, but the author must opt-out.  Please contact the submission address for details. We ask for a one week exclusive run on the site for all submissions.  This is strictly enforced with our army of zombie flying monkeys since we don’t do contracts at this time. :)

Please read a word about rights for the submission email address.

George Piper lives and works in his small hometown of Hammonton, New Jersey. He is looking forward to taking some communication courses over the next summer.
Mr. Piper has always been an avid reader, and only recently has started submitting his short stories for publication.

  2. Hey this site looks rad. I’m in the middle of writing a world of fiction called Blotto. I always have bits that don’t quite fit and are badly in need of a home. Plus I’d love to keep these rolling if just to stay in coffee.

Here’s a one liner: Rotation of masks in a faceless nightmare.

Here’s a cool bath anecdote: The man had bathed and some of his ideas had screamed. He tugged the underwater chain popping the tub plug out. In loud gurgle the body of water thought in drained away from his as gradually he was returned the full weight of his body.

I’m not sure if this is the write way to submit. It could be annoying for larger pieces but if you like the flavour of these let me know and I’ll sort it out. Regards, J.L.

PS. I’m confused with this comment box, hope I’m not tricked into posting free work.

Hello. Your pub has been included on my list at http://bit.ly/FlashFicList. These are places, like yours, that publish writers’ shorter fiction (and creative non-fiction) pieces, not the longer stuff. If you know of others that I’ve missed, please let me know. Thanks.
